Early Sunday morning, my cousin Kevin was the victim of a senseless and tragic shooting at his home. In that heartbreaking moment, he lost two close friends and suffered four gunshot wounds, including a devastating injury to the back of his head. The neurosurgeon described his condition as a severe brain injury, and at first, they weren’t sure he would survive the surgery. To help his brain heal, doctors had to remove a portion of his skull and place a drain to relieve the swelling. Right now, Kevin is in a medically induced coma, giving his body the best chance to recover.
This tragedy comes after months of hardship for Kevin and his mother, Misty, who is also my best friend. Earlier this year, both were recovering from separate car and motorcycle accidents, just beginning to walk again and rebuild their lives. Last August, Kevin’s father passed away in an ATV accident, leaving Misty to care for Kevin during his recovery, as his siblings are adults and have moved out of the home. Now, as Misty sits by Kevin’s hospital bed, she is overwhelmed by mounting medical bills, daily expenses, and the fear of losing their home. She wants nothing more than to be with her son during these critical weeks, but the financial strain is making it nearly impossible.
If you know Misty or Kevin, you know they would give the shirt off their back to help anyone in need. Now, they need your help more than ever. Your support will help Misty stay by Kevin’s side, cover urgent expenses, and give them hope for the long road ahead. Please, if you can help in any way, we would be forever grateful. And if you can’t give financially, we would be so thankful for your prayers and kindness. Thank you for being part of their story and for helping us hold onto hope.
