Support for Kevin’s Recovery Journey

In October, Kevin—my husband’s nephew—began suffering from severe headaches that he simply couldn’t tolerate. At first, doctors thought it was just a migraine, given the family history, and sent him home with Motrin and Tylenol. But when the pain didn’t stop, his parents took him back to the hospital, determined to get answers. Over the next week, Kevin underwent a series of tests—MRI, CT scan, and a spinal tap—but the results were unclear. Despite the doctors’ reassurances, his family knew something was wrong. Within two weeks, Kevin’s condition worsened dramatically. He became disoriented, unable to walk or care for himself, and his family watched helplessly as he deteriorated. Finally, he was diagnosed with encephalitis autoimmune disorder, and things took a terrifying turn. Kevin was flown by care flight to a children’s hospital in Utah, where his parents received the devastating news that he needed emergency brain surgery to survive. The diagnosis changed to reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome (RCVS), a rare condition where the blood vessels in the brain constrict, cutting off blood flow. Since then, it’s been a long and uncertain journey. Kevin’s parents have been by his side, out of town and unable to work, while their two other children, ages 13 and 6, are cared for by family. The road ahead is long—doctors say recovery could take six months to a year, and they can’t promise Kevin will regain full vision or mobility. The financial strain is overwhelming, with mounting medical bills, travel expenses, and the cost of ongoing therapy. We are reaching out to our community for help. Your support will go directly toward Kevin’s care and his family’s needs during this incredibly difficult time. Any amount you can give will make a difference. Thank you for standing with us and for keeping Kevin in your thoughts and prayers. Today it is them, and we never know when it could be us. God bless!
