Our family is heartbroken after the sudden loss of my nephew, Richard Kevin Rubner—known to most as Kevin or Kev. At just 33 years old, Kevin passed away unexpectedly at home, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and genuine care for everyone he met. He was the kind of person who gave the best hugs, always listened, and made everyone feel special. Kevin had just started a new job and was excited about the future, making his passing even more difficult to understand. He touched so many lives in his short time with us, and his absence is deeply felt by all who knew him.
Kevin’s mom, Shawn, and his older brother, William, are devastated by this loss. Shawn, my youngest sister, has always been a devoted single mom, dedicating her life to her two sons. The family lived in San Pedro before moving to Eureka, CA, where Kevin completed college with three degrees and William attended trade school. William is now married to Niki and they have two young children. Kevin returned to San Pedro a couple of years ago for better job opportunities and was living with a childhood friend when he passed. His roommate found him unresponsive, and despite efforts from paramedics, Kevin could not be revived.
We are raising funds to help cover Kevin’s funeral expenses and to support Shawn and William as they navigate this incredibly difficult time. Shawn and William are using resources they simply don’t have, and I want to help ease their burden. Kevin’s mom always said he wouldn’t want us to be sad, but to be grateful for the time we had with him and the love he shared. Any support you can offer will help honor Kevin’s memory and support his family as they grieve.
