On September 18th, my brother Kevin was involved in a hit-and-run car accident that changed his life forever. He was driving home from work when another vehicle struck him from behind, forcing his car off the road and into a tree. The people responsible fled the scene and left him there. Thankfully, a passerby called 911, and Kevin was rushed to the hospital.

Kevin suffered a broken arm, nine broken ribs, and a fracture to his lower spine, along with countless other injuries. On September 19th, he underwent emergency surgery on his spine. Two days later, he required additional surgery on his ribs. He spent over a month in the surgical ICU and three months hospitalized.

Because of the severity of his spinal injury, Kevin is now paralyzed from the chest down and will never walk again.

He has always put others before himself, and he has been the best big brother I could ever ask for.

He is also an incredible single father to my niece, Kaida, who just began her freshman year at Texas A&M University. Kevin has always worked hard to give her a better life, and now he is facing the unimaginable while still trying to be there for her.

Kevin has a very long road ahead. At the time of the accident, he did not have health insurance. He has since obtained coverage through the healthcare marketplace, but it will not come close to covering the long-term care, rehabilitation, equipment, and ongoing medical needs he will require for the rest of his life.

My brothers and I are raising funds to help cover:

• Past and ongoing medical bills

• Long-term rehabilitation and care

• Mobility equipment and home modifications

• Basic living expenses while Kevin adjusts to life after this injury
