For more than 20 years, George proudly served our country in the United States Navy, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer with the Seabees. During his service, including time aboard the USS America during the late Vietnam era, he answered the call whenever his country needed him.

Retirement didn’t slow him down. At 78 years old, George continues to serve his community by volunteering with St. Vincent de Paul in Kerrville, where he repairs donated items so they can be sold to help families in need. Helping others has always been part of who he is.

Now, George needs our help.

During the devastating 2026 Kerrville floods, George’s home was inundated with several inches of floodwater. The house had never flooded in the more than 40 years it has stood, making this event completely unexpected.

The damage has been extensive. Flood remediation has been completed, but every wall required the lower two feet of drywall to be removed, and approximately 90% of the home’s flooring had to be torn out. Many personal belongings, collected over a lifetime, were also lost.

Contractors are currently preparing repair estimates, which we expect to receive by the end of the week. We will continue to post updates as we learn more about the total cost of restoring his home.

Like many retirees, George lives on a fixed income consisting of his military pension, disability benefits, and Social Security. While these provide for his daily needs, they do not come close to covering the cost of major flood repairs. Unfortunately, his homeowners insurance does not cover catastrophic flood damage.
