For several months, I struggled with back pain that just wouldn’t go away. After finally going to ER twice, then referred
to a Dr. and getting an MRI Dye scan, I received the news no one ever wants to hear: I have a tumor and stage
4 cancer. It’s been a whirlwind of emotions and challenges as I try to process this diagnosis and figure out what comes next.
Right now, I am unable to work, and my fiancé has had to temporarily stop working as well so she can care for me and take me to my surgeries and doctor appointments. This has put a huge strain on our finances, and we’re doing our best to stay strong and hopeful. The funds raised here will go directly towards our living expenses—helping us keep a roof over our heads and focus on my treatment and recovery without the added stress of bills piling up.
I’ve never been comfortable asking for help, but I’m reaching out because it’s not just for me—it’s for my fiancé as well. Any support, whether it’s a donation or simply sharing our story, would mean the world to us during this incredibly difficult time. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for any kindness you can offer. I get it, so many people need something, I’m really hoping people who don’t even know me or of me - can pull through and help me achieve my funding goal. I’m just a guy who woke up on the wrong side of bed one day, who is not willing to accept my diagnosis yet (or hopefully ever). This Thursday I’ll be getting around 70 staples removed from my spine. I’m a bit nervous… I believe the doctor said it hurts more on the way out then when they put them in. Why tell me that ? LOL!
Anyway, today (Valentine’s Day) is a very good day. I’ve been lucky to hear from some awesome friends - and they have all provided me with inspiration, hope and kindness. I love movies - that’s why I got into the business - I wanted in help tell good stories in some capacity. Thus, my donation title above. One of my old bosses always got us tickets to the Cinematographers awards held on President’s weekend, what great memories! Let’s go this weekend WBD, we have a lot to celebrate.
2/17 - Back in the hospital today to help regulate the pain which re-appeared and get another MRI Dye scan. Also, had the staples removed from my back, and it felt amazingly good as they were individually pulled out. Met with my oncology doctor to set up my first radiation treatment for Thursday. Radiation will be isolated to the surgical section of my spine. My care at Kaiser has been excellent. I meet with multiple doctors daily, all my questions get answered they’re very helpful with every step of the process. I feel incredibly lucky to have a dedicated team of multiple specialty doctors guiding me through this journey. Meanwhile my friends and colleagues have been so kind, supportive and generous beyond words!. There have been some intense, difficult moments and Kenia has been by my side making this new unwanted adventure bearable. There is so much to be grateful for! Thank you all for your support - it really helps knowing you all have my back (no pun intended).
