In May 2023, I was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). For several months, my doctors and I took a 'watch and see' approach, hoping things would remain stable. Unfortunately, in January of this year, my condition required me to begin treatment. When I informed my employer that I would be starting cancer treatments, I was let go from my job the day before my port was placed, with the explanation that they were 'cutting payroll.'
Since then, life has been a daily challenge. I live in Clarksville, AR, raising my 16-year-old son on my own, without family nearby. From the very first day of treatment, I have been battling constant nausea, headaches, and low-grade fevers. My son has even had to stay home from school to take care of me—something no teenager should have to worry about. Despite applying for unemployment, I was not approved due to new guidelines, and our funds are quickly running out for basic needs.
I have applied for and started receiving food stamps, which has helped with groceries, but I am still struggling to cover rent, utilities, and gas money for my son to get to school and for me to get to my treatments. The support from this fundraiser will help us keep our home and cover essential bills while I focus on my health and recovery. Any help you can offer would mean the world to us during this difficult time. Thank you for reading our story and for considering supporting our family.
