According to the GSP, on October 18, 2024, at approximately 11:45 p.m., a pickup truck was negotiating a curve on Hwy. 53 in Gordon County. The driver of the pickup failed to maintain the proper lane leaving the roadway. The pickup struck a large rock causing the vehicle to reenter the roadway while overturning.
Three occupants were found to be unrestrained during the crash. Two of the individuals suffered fatal injuries: a 26-year-old female and a 17-year-old male. One 23-year-old male was airlifted to Kennestone with serious injuries. The GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRTA) is investigating the crash.
As reported, those killed in the wreck are Brody Hightower, age 17, of Fairmount, and Kayla Crook, age 26, also of Fairmount.
