Kayla and Dillon are raising four wonderful children—Sawyer (9), Titus (7), Ezra (4), and Shiloh (2)—in a home filled with love, faith, and creativity. Dillon is a devoted husband and a hard worker, always striving to provide for his family. Kayla is a Jesus-loving, coffee-obsessed, homeschooling mama.
Right now, Kayla and Dillon are facing one of the hardest journeys parents can imagine. At a routine 20-week ultrasound, Kayla and Dillon learned that their baby has bilateral renal agenesis (Potter syndrome)—a rare and uniformly fatal condition where the kidneys and bladder do not develop, leading to a lack of amniotic fluid and severely underdeveloped lungs and heart. Despite being offered termination, Kayla and Dillon have chosen to carry their baby with love for as long as possible, praying for a miracle while preparing to cherish every moment they have with him. The name they have chosen is Oakes Mishael Hougnon. Oakes’ middle name, Mishael, means “His Mother asked God for him” or “who is like God.”
The family is holding onto their faith, drawing strength from scripture and the promise that even in sorrow, God is faithful and close. The name Oakes is inspired by the passage in Isaiah 61:2-3, which speaks of being called "Mighty Oaks of Righteousness, planted by Yahweh as a living display of his glory." This verse has become a source of comfort and hope for Kayla and Dillon as they walk this difficult path. While their close church family is providing meals and local support, many friends and loved ones from other states have reached out, wanting to help in any way they can. The family is preparing for significant expenses, including funeral costs, hospital and doctor visits, travel, and other needs that will arise during this difficult time.
We are reaching out to ask for your prayers, love, and support for Kayla, Dillon, and their children. Any contribution, no matter the size, will help ease the financial burden and allow them to focus on cherishing every moment together. Your kindness will remind them that they are not alone and that a caring community surrounds them, even from afar.
