On January 14, 2026, our family’s world changed in an instant. My daughter-in-law, Kayla, suffered a devastating accident when her head came into contact with a live power line carrying 19,000 volts. By a series of miracles, a trucker nearby witnessed the event and rushed to get help. Within minutes, emergency responders arrived, performed CPR, and transported Kayla to the ICU burn unit at one of the nation’s top hospitals for this kind of trauma. She is currently in critical condition, on a ventilator, and surrounded by more tubes and wires than I have ever seen. Her husband, Corey, her parents, and all of us are here in Houston, hoping and praying for the moment she opens her eyes and is mentally present. The early signs are encouraging—her EEG is good, she is breathing on her own (the ventilator is precautionary), and her heart has been beating on its own since EMTs revived her at the scene.
As Kayla fights for her recovery, we know there will be mounting medical bills, ongoing care, and living expenses. Corey will be working far less, if at all, to be by her side and support her through this journey. The costs ahead are monumental and will far exceed what we, their parents, can offset. Many friends and family have asked how they can help, and this GoFundMe is our way of giving you a way to support Kayla and Corey. Your generosity will go directly toward hospital expenses, medical care, and daily living costs as they navigate the long road ahead.
It is always hard to reach out and ask for help, but your support—whether through thoughts, prayers, or financial contributions—means the world to us. Thank you for caring about Kayla and Corey during this unimaginable time. Your kindness and generosity will make a real difference in their lives.
