My mom, Kathy, and my dad, Don, are facing the most difficult chapter of their lives. Kathy, my mother, recently suffered a fall that resulted in a broken arm and required surgery. During her hospital stay, we received the devastating news that she has metastasizing breast cancer, which has spread to other areas of her body and her brain. The doctors have told us she has only a few weeks to a few months to live. This diagnosis was completely unexpected and has left our family heartbroken and overwhelmed.
Kathy has always been the heart of our family. She spent 23 years working as a classroom aide in special education, giving nothing but patience, kindness, and love to every student she worked with. At home, she made sure everyone was taken care of—cooking every meal and always putting others before herself. She loves her grandson and granddaughter with her whole heart, and they absolutely adore her. Now, after more than a month in the hospital, surgery, rehab, and returning to the hospital, Kathy needs 24-hour, 7 days a week care. We are also facing the reality of unforeseen funeral expenses.
My dad, Don, and I are doing everything we can to navigate this, but along with the heartbreak comes mounting medical expenses, everyday bills, and the unexpected costs that come with end-of-life arrangements. We are asking for help to ease some of this burden so we can focus on what matters most—being by her side, supporting each other, and making sure she is surrounded by love. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will go toward medical expenses and care, household bills during this time, and funeral and end-of-life arrangements. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page would mean so much to our family. Thank you for your kindness, support, and for keeping Kathy and our family in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time. With gratitude, Amanda & Don
