Greetings friends, family, community members, and teammates of the Szkwareks,
This campaign is raising funds for Kate Szkwarek and her family, who live in Comox on Vancouver Island. Thirteen-year-old Kate was recently diagnosed with leukemia and has begun cancer treatment at BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver.
Kate is a vibrant, fun-loving young girl, an outstanding soccer player and athlete, and a loved member of the Comox Valley United Soccer Club community. She is receiving excellent care, is a fighter, and we are confident she will beat this disease into remission. However, the road to recovery will be long.
Kate’s treatment will span approximately two years, with the first six to nine months spent in Vancouver before she can return home to complete her care.
The Comox Valley community is rallying around Kate. Her parents, Stefan and Karen, along with her two sisters, will need our support throughout this challenging time.
The Comox community organization, YANA, has been amazing at helping out with accommodation. The funds raised here will help offset travel and living expenses for the Szkwarek family, as well as helping to cover all the time they are taking off work, while they support Kate in Vancouver and throughout her treatment journey.
Thank you for keeping Kate in your thoughts and for any support you are able to provide.
