Several people have reached out asking us to create a GoFundMe. Truthfully, just like my mom, Karen, asking for help is incredibly hard for me especially during this significant grief. But I also know how deeply she was loved, and I know she would want my brother and I to be okay. Please know we do not expect this and are so so grateful for anything that eases our burden even a little.
My mom, Karen Vincent passed away on July 22, 2026 after a major car accident at the age of 64. She was loved by so many. And this is one of the hardest times of my life. Because of the nature of the accident formal death certificates won't be available for 90 days or longer which means if there is any life insurance (which we can't find yet) won't provide us with any immediate financial support.
As many of you know, my brother George and I are currently the primary financial providers for our families. I own a private therapy practice, and after losing my mom so unexpectedly, I honestly can't imagine returning to work for the next couple of weeks due to our traveling and grief. George is a truck driver and, like many people, receives only a few days of bereavement leave. He lives in South Carolina and I live in West coast Florida.
Over the coming weeks, we'll be traveling multiple times between Florida and Massachusetts as we navigate funeral arrangements, time with family, and Karen's celebration of life, her estate. We also expect to incur legal expenses as we begin settling her estate, a process that will likely take months as we work through many unknowns.
We want to be completely transparent about how any donations will be used.
100% of the funds will go toward:
- Funeral and memorial expenses not already covered ($5,000)
- Continuing to cover her expenses until her estate is handled
- Travel to and from Vero Beach (multiple trips) $500
- Travel for both families to Massachusetts $2000
- Hotels, gas, flights, meals (unknown)
- Attorney/estate administration ($1000 retainer)
- Lost income (Therapist/Business Owner) and George (truck driver)
- Unknown estate expenses
- Travel expenses including housing (Airbnb) for George and I’s family to travel to her home in Florida as well as Massachusetts for services. Last minute travel like this is expensive.
- Attorney and estate-related expenses (unknown things at this time) Florida is a probate state and could take months or years.
- Helping financially to support our families while we take the necessary time away from work to grieve.
We are incredibly grateful that Karen's employer, Danuvial Service Solutions, has already generously contributed toward her immediate arrangements.
If donations exceed these expenses, every remaining dollar will be placed into college funds for Karen's grandchildren, Alex and Ellie, and toward carrying out any final wishes we discover as we settle her estate.
In the spirit of transparency, KJ and I had a previously planned, completely non-refundable trip scheduled for next week. We may still take that trip depending on how everything unfolds. We wanted to share that openly that this was already planned and paid for.
Whether you donate, share this page, send a message, or simply keep our family in your thoughts, we are deeply grateful. The love shown to our mom has been overwhelming, and it has reminded us just how many lives she touched.
Finally, if there is one thing this experience has taught us, it's this: please don't wait. Make a list of your accounts, passwords (especially for your phone), life insurance information, important documents, and CREATE a will today if you haven't already. One of the hardest parts of losing someone unexpectedly isn't just the grief—it's navigating the countless unknowns while your heart is broken.
Thank you for loving our mom. We promise to honor her the best we know how.
