SHOW YOUR STRIPES FOR KAMRYN To know Kam is to love Kam

One week ago, the Hill family’s world changed overnight.
Kamryn, a strong, softball-loving 17-year-old known for her determination and bright spirit, was suddenly hospitalized after experiencing rapid and severe swelling. Within days, extensive testing and a kidney biopsy led to a life-altering diagnosis:
Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (aHUS).
Atypical HUS is a rare, life-threatening disease that attacks the kidneys and blood vessels. Without treatment, it can lead to kidney failure and other serious complications. Genetic testing is still pending, but doctors have confirmed she will require lifelong treatment.
She is currently the only person in her age group in the entire state of Idaho diagnosed with this condition, making specialized care difficult and often requiring coordination beyond local resources.

Her Treatment
Kamryn will begin Soliris (eculizumab) infusions:
• Weekly during a loading phase
• Then every two months long-term
This medication protects her kidneys and gives her a future — but the financial burden is significant, even with insurance.

Funds raised will help cover:
• Specialized medical treatments and infusion costs
• Travel and lodging for specialty care
• Medical deductibles and uncovered expenses
• Lost income while her parents remain by her side during treatment

Why the Zebra?
In medicine, doctors are taught: “When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras.” Horses represent common conditions. Zebras represent rare diseases — the ones often overlooked.
Rare disease patients are the zebras.
We are asking our community to Show Your Stripes — wear zebra stripes and teal (the color of rare and kidney disease awareness) — and stand with this family as they navigate a diagnosis no one prepares for.

Wear stripes
Pray fiercely
Every act of support helps give Kamryn strength and stability as she begins this journey.
Because when it turns out to be a zebra, they shouldn’t have to run alone.

JD serves as a wildland firefighter with the Sawtooth Hotshots, an elite crew deployed across the country to fight the most dangerous wildfires. His work often takes him weeks away from home, with long deployments and missed family moments, all in service to others.
At home, Lacy works full-time for the Social Security Administration while managing their household and caring for their children. They have always loved serving their country and community, answering the call to help others whenever needed.
With Kamryn’s rare disease diagnosis, the weight on this remarkable family has only grown.

The Hill family is truly one of the most selfless, generous, and loving families I have ever known. In the 21 years I’ve had the privilege of knowing them, I have never once seen them ask for help — they are always the first to give, the first to serve, and the first to lift others up.
Now they are facing something no family can carry alone, and it’s our turn to surround them with the same love and support they have given so many others.
