My name is Kaeli, and I am reaching out for support during an incredibly challenging time for myself and my two-year-old daughter. I have always been a hard worker, starting my first job at 13, creating personalized Veggie Tales music for kids, and most recently working for Apple Inc. (for almost ten years). Unfortunately, in 2021, I was let go due to my extensive medical history and the severe trauma and disabilities I have experienced. Since then, my health has continued to decline, and I am now completely unable to work. I am currently working with the ASSIST program to apply for disability through SSDI, but there is no clear timeline for when or if that support will come through. However, it is in process, but right now we desperately need support to get through until this is approved.
My medical situation has become even more complicated as I am now a Covid Long Hauler, which has brought on additional health challenges. I experience severe cognitive issues similar to dementia, as well as severe cardiac and pulmonary problems. I have been diagnosed with chronic 'Rare ectopy', loss of oxygen while sleeping, for which I am now on oxygen 24/7 and unable to do many of the things I once could. In addition, I have also been diagnosed with chronic atelectasis, which, is the partial or complete collapse of lung tissue (alveoli) caused by airway obstruction or external pressure, leading to reduced lung volume and impaired oxygenation. I also experience a chronic nausea disorder that has begun to disolve my teeth, being, hypokalemia, a condition characterized by abnormally low potassium levels in the blood (less than 3.5 mmol/L), often caused by vomiting, diarrhea, or diuretic use. It also causes muscle weakness, cramps, fatigue, and dangerous/severe heart arrhythmias, which I also experience from severe cardiac issues. My mobility is limited, and I am unable to drive or spend much time on my feet due to the risk of blackouts and loss of oxygen to my brain.
A full list of my chronic medical issues, both physiological and behavioral/mental health can be seen below. Which, I have chosen to openly share as I have nothing to hide and only want to be transparent with everyone going forward so that it's known that nothing is being made up, or false. The severity and need is very real.
I am still being treated and assessed by multiple specialists and will continue to update as wel go along. However, your support is more than appreciated during this extremely difficult time in life.
Despite all of this, I am doing everything I can to be the best mother possible to my little girl, Emelia, who needs and requires my constant care and attention. She is truly my entire world, and all I want to be able to do is provide her with the best possible life she can have!
All funds raised will go directly toward daily living expenses, medical bills, medical equipment that's severely needed that my insurance will not cover, and ensuring that my daughter and I are fully cared for during this uncertain time. Your support, whether through a donation or by sharing my story, would mean the world to us. Thank you for taking the time to read about our journey and for considering helping us as we navigate these difficult circumstances.
Items that are currently needed that insurance will not cover or reimburse for are:
- A secondary portable OxyGo Next portable machine
- 2 additional OxyGo Next batteries for longer battery life (currently restricted to 4-5 hours of portable life without having to be charged)
- A shower chair
- A bathroom bench
- Multiple arm bars to be installed to prevent the risk of falling
- A new mattress, as my current one is causing bruising to my flank muscles around the Atelectasis/collapsed lungs on both sides of my body (which, to say the least, is very painful)
- A bedframe that works with the new mattress as my current one will not
