As many of you have heard, Justin Calloway tragically passed away this past Wednesday in a mining accident. He leaves behind his wife, Katelyn, and their two precious young sons, Luka and Baylor. At just 24 years old, Katelyn is now facing the unimaginable. Less than a year ago, they purchased their dream home and were building a beautiful life together.
Katelyn is such a kind, giving person and would never ask for anything. During this incredibly difficult time, this sweet family needs all the love, prayers, and support our community can offer. The funds raised will help Katelyn and her sons with immediate expenses, provide stability during this difficult time, and support them as they navigate life without Justin. Losing a loved one so suddenly brings not only emotional pain, but also unexpected financial burdens. "This is something I never thought I would be typing, so bear with me as I am beyond distraught. 7-1-2026 at 7:03 pm my life changed forever. I was getting the kids ready for bed, waiting on Justin to get home, and making his lunch for the next day. I got a call from my husband’s work letting me know that he had been involved in an accident underground. As I rushed around to get the kids situated and get my mom over to watch them so that I could go be with Justin, I was keeping myself as calm as I possibly could because I did not want to scare our babies. The man that called said RPS was on the way and he would call back and let me know which hospital he would be taken to. I immediately left and was just trying to find middle ground between Tuscaloosa and Birmingham so I could make it to him as quickly as possible once they let me know where to go. I was praying for him to have lost a finger or to have broken a bone because I knew something simple could heal, and he could be healthy again, but this was worse than anything I could have dreamed of. While I was driving, I was calling family to let everyone know and as we’re all racing down the interstate, I got a call from my mom telling me to come home. The emotions that I felt were absolutely hysterical. I knew it was not good news. I screamed, I cried, I yelled and cried a whole lot more. I raced back home where I pulled up to a group of people on my front porch waiting for me. Our family and the men who called earlier to let me know what had happened.. when I got out of my car, my knees were so weak I could barely stand. He told me that they did everything that they could, but they could not save him. At 24 years old, with 2 beautiful and healthy baby boys, the love of my life had passed away. Justin was the absolute best dad these boys could have asked for. He loved them unconditionally, and was the leader I dreamed of my children having. He was and will always be my best friend and the love of my life. My heart is shattered. Our little Luka just doesn’t understand, and our poor Baylor will not have any memories of his daddy outside of pictures. I cannot believe this is our reality and I am patiently waiting for someone to wake me up from this nightmare. Justin is their world. He is my world. He is the epitome of love in this house. I don’t know how our world will continue to spin. Please keep my little family in your prayers as we navigate the absolute worst storm I could imagine."
