My name is Madilyn, and I am June's daughter.
On Saturday night, my mother, June Hartel, suffered a severe stroke while we were alone together in the car. June is a devoted 2nd grade teacher who was eagerly preparing to start teaching 3rd grade in late August. She is a single mother raising a teenage daughter, and her sudden medical emergency has turned our world upside down.
Anyone who knows June knows her heart for helping others. Whether she was supporting a struggling student, encouraging a colleague, or making sacrifices for her family, she has always put others before herself. She has touched the lives of countless children and families through her kindness, patience, and dedication.
In addition to her full-time teaching job, she has been working multiple jobs, including Doordash, just to afford groceries, clothes, and my school expenses. She was planning to teach summer school in just two weeks to earn extra money. Now, as she begins her recovery, she is unable to work and faces the challenge of supporting her family without her usual income.
Currently, June has no movement on the right side of her body, cannot speak or swallow, and rehabilitation is going to be long and slow. The uncertainty of this situation is overwhelming, but we are determined to help her through it.
We are raising funds to help cover household expenses, medical and rehabilitation-related costs, transportation to appointments, and other necessities while June is unable to work.
