Apologies.
This is a lot.
I got June Bug recently from one of the local shelters. After looking online through hundreds of dogs, I stopped on her and couldn't get her out of my head. For days, I contemplated getting her as I had just lost my dog a week prior to aggressive lymphoma.
This girl has been the highlight of my life since the moment I brought her home. She follows me around like a shadow and just always wants her human near, and I can understand why.
I smile all day every day, even when I'm not around her.
When I'm working, I can't wait to get home to see her smiling face and wagging tail. After all she has been through, I'm so surprised at how much she loves humans and animals alike. Everywhere we go, everyone says she has such a beautiful spirit. And she does.
Unfortunately, this beautiful girl had a terrible life.
June is 8/9 years old. She was being treated for mastitis. My fingers were crossed that this was all it was.
She was taken into the shelter in March and likely had babies not too long prior to her entering.
Based on all the bed sores, skin tags, caked-on, black, dried-up milk left on her nipples, terrible bacterial eye infection, and "mastitis," it's obvious she was not truly cared for, but was a puppy mill mommy, likely given up because she could no longer serve her "purpose" to the "owners."
The moment she started costing them any money, they tossed her.
After taking her to the vet on 5/12, I was told these are tumors and could be cancerous. They said the best option for her is to get a mastectomy and have them tested. After having just lost my other dog to cancer, I decided to pull the funds I do have together for a down payment as I really don't want her to have to go through what my other baby did.
This poor girl had such a terrible life pumping out babies like a machine. I really don't want her to have to live her life with this massive (possibly cancerous) tumor hanging down from her and constantly dripping leakage. It does seem to irritate her, as do her dry eyes, and all I want to do is give her the best, most comfortable retirement any dog could have and be able to take her to the dog beach every day to see the sunset.
I don't normally ask for help as I like to get insurance for my pets, and it's usually covered, but this is pre-existing and obviously won't be covered. Luckily, I (barely) have the down payment, and they were nice enough to work with me on a payment plan.
I was so grateful as this girl deserves to live out her days as comfortably as possible.
However, like most pet parents, I wasn't expecting such a big vet bill right off the bat, and after I took in my nephew last year (after his dad died and his adoptive parents could no longer handle his ASD), my finances changed dramatically very quickly, thus why I got a second job and now getting a third.
Yes, I can afford basic needs and I make her homemade food weekly, but this lump sum wasn't budgeted in (obviously).
I'm getting the surgery for her on 5/13/25.
I ask for any help possible. Nothing is too small.
I really appreciate any help given.
Truly.
Her vet is Bright Cross in Venice, FL.
The estimated cost for this surgery is $2500.

UPDATE:
5/13
They don't believe the tumors are cancerous but still going to send to lab.
She ended up needing a double mastectomy but they didn't increase the amount I owe.
Unfortunitly
She iwas tested and is Heartworm positive and I will now have to go through that process in a couple months to get her heartworm free.
Thank you again for anyone who chooses to support this Angel. ❤️
