Update – Sunday, August 17, 2025
Joy remains in the ICU at ECU Health following her stroke and emergency brain surgery. Dad and Trevor are staying nearby in an Airbnb so they can rotate shifts being with her while also caring for the dogs. We are incredibly grateful that her emergency brain surgery was a success, and we continue to hold onto faith and hope as she begins the long road of recovery. Thank you for all of your prayers, love, and support — it means more than words can say.
Our Story:
My name is Tyler Brownlow, and I am raising funds for my mom, "Momma Joy" Brownlow, who suffered a severe hemorrhagic stroke on Tuesday, August 12th. This was a devastating and life-changing event for our family, and she is now facing a long and uncertain road to recovery.
Joy is a loving mother, grandmother, spouse, and friend who has always put others first. Now she needs our help more than ever. Between my dad stepping into the role of caretaker, emergency medical care, rehabilitation, and the many unexpected expenses that come with a medical crisis of this magnitude, the financial burden has quickly become overwhelming.
After being airlifted to ECU Health, Mom was admitted to the ICU, where she has remained under constant care. Just a few days later, on Friday, August 15th, she underwent emergency brain surgery to remove the clot. By the grace of God, the surgery was a miraculous success, but her journey is far from over. Recovery from both a major stroke and brain surgery will take time, strength, and resources.
Right now, our family is doing everything we can to stay close to her. My dad and my brother Trevor are renting an Airbnb near ECU Health so they can take shifts sitting with Mom in the ICU, while also caring for the dogs. Our lives have been turned upside down, but we are holding onto faith, love, and hope for Joy’s healing.
The coming weeks and months will bring many challenges — medical bills, housing costs, meals, rehabilitation, and the everyday expenses that come with putting life on hold to care for a loved one. This GoFundMe has been set up to help ease that financial burden so we can focus on supporting Mom in her recovery.
Mom is a strong, selfless woman who has always given so much to others. Now it’s our turn to rally around her. Any donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference for our family. And if you are not able to give, your prayers and kind words mean the world to us.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping us fight for Joy’s recovery.
