With heavy hearts, I’m sharing the sudden passing of Joshua J. L. Smith at just 46 years old. He leaves behind his wife, six children, mother, and siblings, all of whom are now facing life without him. Their family has been walking through a complicated season which makes this loss even more deeply felt. Joshua was a genuine friend and a brother to so many, and he was truly loved by everyone who knew him.
Along with grief, the family is now facing unexpected funeral and burial expenses without the financial means to cover them. We want to be able to give Joshua a dignified funeral service and burial—something that honors his life and allows his family and community the space to say goodbye. I’m asking for support—both in prayer and in practical help—to come alongside this family in a time when they need it most. Any gift, no matter the size, will help provide a meaningful service and ease some of the burden they are carrying. If you’re not able to give, sharing this or keeping them in your prayers means just as much.
We kindly ask that you please give Becky and the kids time to grieve and spend time with family, and refrain from reaching out to them directly right now. Your understanding and respect for their privacy during this difficult time means so much.
Most of all, we ask that you keep his wife, children, mother, and siblings in your prayers as they navigate the days ahead without him—this is a loss that will be felt for a lifetime. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18 Thank you for showing love, compassion, and support during this incredibly difficult time.
