Support for Joshua Thompson after devastating loss
Donation protected
My name is Rachel Wasserman. I have started this Go Fund Me page on behalf of my boyfriend Joshua Thompson. As many of you know, fires have devastated Southern California over this last week. Like so many others, Joshua's home was not spared.
Joshua was born in Altadena, California, and was raised there by his loving mother in his grandfather's home on El Sereno Ave. It's in this home that he experienced all of his firsts; first steps, first bicycle ride, and first neighborhood friends. He recalls bedtime stories with his mother who had a passion for literature, and going to church every Sunday with his grandfather.
Joshua unfortunately suffered the loss of his mother and grandfather at a young age, later assuming responsibility for his family home. A home which held so many years of fond memories.
Many don't know this about Josh, because he is not one to usually talk about himself, but he works in the community serving severely handicapped and special needs students. Additionally, Joshua also worked with disabled senior citizens who were confined to home. He spent six years as a volunteer helping spinal cord-injured veterans at the VA hospital and also spent many of his weekend's volunteering at Union Station and feeding the homeless.
Unfortunately, his home full of photos, and the memories of lost loved ones has been reduced to twisted metal and ash. He is without a home. In this time of need most would turn to family to find a safe haven, but his adoptive parents who lived nearby lost their home as well. Furthermore, work now looks uncertain with the closing of schools in his district, also due to the fire.
For anyone that has known Josh, they know that he is a kind and loving person that will go to any lengths for his family, friends, neighbors and students. This time he needs our help. Please share his story and give what you can. Any little bit truly helps when all that you have left fits into a couple of suitcases. No gift is too small.
