As you may have seen in the news, on August 10th, a strong earthquake hit Colombia and was felt very heavily in Cali, where my husband Jose’s mom, dad, and brother live. Unfortunately, their apartment was severely damaged in the earthquake and is no longer safe for them to live in. Thankfully, everyone was able to get out safely, which we are incredibly grateful for. Right now, though, they have very limited options for where to stay and will need help with housing for the next few months while they figure out what comes next.
We’ve started this fundraiser to help cover temporary housing, replace some of the household items that were lost or damaged, and eventually help them get settled into a new apartment. Anything you’re able to contribute would mean so much to Jose and me, and his family.
Thank you so much for your support!
Update: August 13th
We cannot begin to describe how thankful we are for the generous support we have received so far, from long-time friends to close family members, and even from kind people we've never met. Thank you so much for your generous support of Jose's family! They have secured temporary housing and will begin looking for something more permanent within the next month.
Jose arrived to Cali yesterday and has hit the ground running to figure out next steps for his family. He visited the apartment building and unfortunately, the interior, including the stairs, is at a very high risk of collapsing completely, so it's looking like his family will have to start from scratch with a new home and new things. Despite that, they are feeling positive thanks to the support they have received so far from friends and family.
We will continue to provide updates as Jose's family learns more about next steps - thank you so much again!
