On September 4th, Joseph and Katie’s lives changed forever when Katie went into unexpected preterm labor at just 23 weeks and 6 days. At Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, she delivered two beautiful babies—Sadie Lynn at 4:05pm and Gatlin Roger at 4:07pm. Tiny and fragile, they were immediately taken to the NICU.

That evening, Joseph and Katie were able to see their babies stable and fighting. But in the early hours of the next morning, their precious daughter, Sadie Lynn, weighing just 1 lb. 2 oz., passed away after 10 short hours of life. She was too precious for this world, yet she will forever be their angel.

Their son, Gatlin Roger, weighing 1 lb. 5 oz., held on a little longer. After 38 hours, surrounded by his parents’ love, Gatlin also passed away peacefully in their arms.

Joseph and Katie are now left with broken hearts and the unimaginable pain of saying goodbye to both of their babies. They are leaning on their faith, counseling, and the love of those around them as they begin a long journey of healing.
