Yesterday, our family experienced a frightening moment that no one ever expects.
Jordan Murray, a 33-year-old professional hockey player from Riverview, New Brunswick, suffered a sudden cardiac arrest during a game in Austria while playing for EC KAC. Jordan collapsed on the bench and required immediate medical attention. Details here
Thanks to the quick response of the team’s medical staff and emergency personnel, Jordan was successfully resuscitated and transported to the ICU, where he is currently in stable condition.
Jordan’s girlfriend, Megan, is by his side at the hospital, and his parents are now urgently traveling from Riverview, NB to Austria to be with him during his recovery.
While we are grateful that Jordan is receiving excellent medical care and that his immediate medical expenses are expected to be covered by the team, the sudden international travel and extended stay for his parents comes with significant unexpected costs.
At this time, we also do not know what Jordan’s longer-term recovery will look like or what this may mean for his future in hockey.
Jordan has always made his family and community proud—from Riverview to his professional career overseas—and now we are hoping to rally support around him and his family during this difficult and uncertain time.
