For several weeks, Jonathan had been experiencing high fevers on and off. When he began feeling significantly worse, he went to the Emergency Department, never expecting how quickly things would escalate.
Shortly after admission, Jonathan developed sudden weakness and numbness in his legs, losing reflexes and strength and requiring urgent neurological testing. After extensive imaging and evaluation, he was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis, a rare inflammatory condition affecting the spinal cord that can cause rapid loss of mobility.
He immediately began high-dose IV steroid treatment to reduce the inflammation. While doctors are hopeful, recovery from Transverse Myelitis takes time. Jonathan is expected to transfer to an inpatient rehabilitation facility, where he will begin intensive daily therapy to work toward regaining his strength and ability to walk.
Jonathan recently accepted a new job, and his previous health insurance coverage will be ending soon. During this unexpected medical crisis, Ashley is balancing time at the hospital, caring for their three children, and continuing to work. For now, they will rely solely on Ashley’s income while Jonathan focuses fully on healing and rehabilitation.
The hospital stay, upcoming inpatient rehabilitation, and ongoing medical expenses — along with the uncertainty of insurance coverage — will create significant financial strain. Any donation will go directly toward medical costs and everyday living expenses as the Simmons family navigates this difficult and unexpected season.
Thank you for your prayers, encouragement, and support.
