My dad had been dealing with hip and back pain for quite a long time and in August of 2017, he set out to find out what was going on and to get it fixed. After several months of X-rays, MRI’s, visits to several doctors, chiropractic treatment and physical therapy, nothing was helping. Finally, on July 2, 2018, they did an EMG (Electromyogram) test and dad was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), or, more commonly called Lou Gehrig’s disease. In case you are not familiar with ALS, it is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Basically, the neurons of the nerves begin to scar and harden, which means the brain cannot communicate with the muscles. Gradually, you lose strength and control of your voluntary muscles as they undergo atrophy. Currently, there is no cure for ALS.
We have been blessed that the majority of the medical expenses have been covered so far, but there are a lot of expenses that are not covered by insurance, like remodeling of the house to make it handicap accessible, which includes a ramp, stair lifts, remodeled bathroom, etc. Right now, dad is looking at a handicap accessible van. Dad has always been very active and on the go, and the purpose of this van is so dad can experience as much independence as he can, for as long as he can.
We are asking for your support, not only for this van, but for future expenses, which can be substantial. This journey that dad is on, is a challenge for him emotionally, physically, and financially. Along with the financial help, and more importantly, we ask for your prayers. Words can’t express the gratitude we have for your support, whether it be financial or prayers.
If you have a prayer request, please let us know so we can pray for you.
