On April 29th, what started as an urgent follow-up appointment with his PCP despite 2 weeks of oral antibiotic treatments with multiple urgent care, ER and PCP visits for shortness of breath and fevers- later diagnosed as Blastmycosis, turned into a life-altering admission for 31 year old husband and father, Jon Moore. While initially admitted for IV antibiotics, Jons' oxygenation status slowly declined over the course of several days. By Tuesday 5/3, the decision was made by Jon to be placed on a ventilator. By the end of that day, Jon's body was working so hard that he required to be medically paralyzed and placed on ECMO- a machine that artifically oxygenates your blood.
He has since made small progress each day but continues to require medical paralysis, ventilation and ECMO support in addition to continuous kidney dialysis. While the doctors are hopeful for a full recovery, they do anticipate his hospital stay to be several months long with the potential for further surgical procedures, with an unknown amount of physical rehab upon discharge. Jon is not eligible for FMLA at this time as he chose to pursue his dream career of being an electric lineman last summer, and has not been with his current company for the 12 months required. He will be unable to work for the duration of his hospital stay and whatever rehab is required at discharge resulting in many months of lost wages.
Jon has a 15-month-old beautiful baby girl at home, and an incredibly strong wife by his side balancing her role of wife and mother while continuing to try and work to recoup some lost income. He is loved by all he has come in contact with. He is truly one of the most genuine people you could meet and is sure to bring a smile to anyones face. He is a wicked dancer and the best friend a guy (or gal) could ask for. Any donations to assist this family as they prepare for months of recovery, lost wages, and increasing medical bills would be greatly appreciated to lighten their financial burden.
