Today our family experienced a heartbreaking loss. We lost our beloved stepdad John after a long and difficult battle with cancer. He had been in remission and was preparing for a bone marrow transplant that gave our family so much hope. Unfortunately, complications from a severe flesh eating fungal infection caused by negligent hospital staff prevented him from receiving the bone marrow transplant in time. For the past five months he fought incredibly hard through several invasive surgeries to sustain the infection and illness, showing strength and determination every single day. Tragically, during that time the cancer returned, and his body could no longer keep fighting. Our stepdad was a loving husband, father, and friend who meant so much to everyone around him. He was the kind of person who showed up for people, offered support when it was needed most, and cared deeply about his family. His loss has left an enormous hole in our hearts. During this incredibly difficult time, our family is also facing unexpected funeral and memorial expenses.
