John Aldewereld - Support Family After Tragic Loss

For Audrey Kosa, who lost the love of her life and husband of 24 years, and for Luca and Vincent Aldewereld, who lost their adoring father, John Aldewereld, on June 18, 2024.

John’s tragic death has left his family devastated. John (57) had a cardiac event that quickly escalated to him being transported by a medical helicopter to University Hospital (Cleveland). While he was there, he had a tiny upswing, followed by what they think may have been a stroke. He was put on life support and tests were run to ultimately determine his brain stem activity. Audrey and her family had to make the excruciating decision to let him go based on those results.

On the afternoon of 6/18/2024, John gave the ultimate gift of life to others as an organ donor. John's donation of his liver and 2 kidneys are filling other lives with hope and his pancreas will be used in research. His Honor Walk was attended by the family and hospital staff, he was accompanied with New Orleans style jazz funeral music playing. When Audrey and John lived in New Orleans and saw these funeral processions, they’d view these as the joy of releasing a soul to the heavens.

John was so many things to so many people however the greatest of these are beloved husband, treasured father, and cherished son. He made such an impact during his time with us through his passion for family, food and music. He generously gave his support to all, fully and willingly. Of course, we’ll all remember and celebrate his beaming smile and one-of-a-kind hospitality.

John was the primary financial support for his family. Audrey is employed part-time as an academic advisor. Audrey and John have two college-aged boys, Luca and Vincent. The family greatly appreciates any monetary gifts to help defray expenses incurred including extensive medical bills and support for educational costs.
