Dear Team Lane,
Thank you for your continued support of John and Betsy as they navigate the very stressful physical and emotional journey of John’s pancreatic cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Caring Bridge has been a wonderful way to keep up with their news and offer support through words, meals, errands, and prayer. Today, we are adding another way to support Betsy and John: a GoFundMe site.
As some of you know, Betsy and John have only been receiving 60% of John’s base pay for the past 2.5 years, due to an ongoing legal battle to get his employer to pay Workers Comp benefits for the workplace injury that led to John's spine surgery in 2016. John's cancer diagnosis made an already challenging situation worse. Days are overflowing with treatments, recovery, and appointments, and the time and energy Betsy has available for her work has been sharply curtailed by caregiving tasks.
I am setting up this fund so that those who want and are able to give financially can do so. Donations will be used to help cover medical and living expenses. Gifts of any size are welcome. The site is easy to use, and you can give anonymously if you prefer. Please don't feel any obligation to participate; there are many different ways to support friends in need, and all of the ways you have already shown your support are truly appreciated by John and Betsy!
As Betsy told me recently, "We are so deeply and profoundly touched and grateful for the myriad, diverse ways our friends and family have stepped up to the plate to support us. I honestly don’t know how we would get through this without our community helping us stay afloat mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Our network of loved ones across the country and around the world astounds me every day. You are all truly THE BEST EVER!"
Many thanks,
Elizabeth
