Joel is my good friend and fraternity brother, and we’ve shared many important moments in life. Like me, he’s a devoted father of three, and he’s the kind of person who brings warmth and laughter to everyone around him. Right now, Joel is facing one of the biggest challenges of his life: he needs a kidney transplant. Despite the pain and exhaustion he faces every day, Joel continues to show up for his family and friends with love, strength, and a smile.

Joel’s search for a living kidney donor is urgent. His sister Paige describes him as a force for good in the world, someone who loves deeply, thinks carefully, and hugs you like it’s the most important thing he’s ever done. While Joel’s donor’s medical costs are covered, there are still many out-of-pocket and incidental expenses related to travel, recovery, time off work, and daily living that are not typically reimbursed or fully reimbursed. Joel would like to offer the donor and potential donors, the opportunity to come to the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix with him for the surgery and recovery, if they wish, so they can bond and support each other through the process. This fundraiser is for incedentals only. Its designed to help ease the financial burden so the donor and any potential donors can focus on what truly matters: Helping Joel get back to health! We want to make sure that whoever steps forward to help Joel doesn’t have to worry about these extra costs.
