April 9th, 2019 is a day we will never forget. The phone call family and friends got that morning was both the worst day, and the best. The worst, because we heard that Joe had been in a horrific motor vehicle accident and was being rushed to the Ottawa Civic Hospital. The best, because we were told he was still alive.
On that morning, Joe was headed to his first work call of the day. It was 7:30 am, the weather was good and the roads were dry. His life changed in an instant when an oncoming driver fell asleep at the wheel and veered into Joe's lane, hitting him in a head on collision on a stretch of highway between Perth and Carleton Place.
If you know Joe and have spent any time with him at all, it is most likely that he has touched your life in some way. He is the son, father, brother, uncle and friend that anyone would be lucky to have. He is the one that runs toward the trouble when a family member or friend is in need, while others are running away from it.
He has devoted his life to his business, JC Heating & Cooling, and to his daughter Madeleine, who is the light of his life and the reason he works so hard to earn a living every single day. Since April 9th, Joe has been in the Trauma Unit fighting back against the catastrophic injuries he sustained in the collision.
He has had 3 surgeries to repair his spine, pelvis and hip, and to restore blood flow to his lower extremities. As we speak, he is in the Plastic Surgery clinic of the hospital to receive a skin graft for a soft tissue injury that was too extensive to suture. He has several surgeries ahead of him to repair his legs, ankles and feet. Joe's life will never be the same as it was before the accident, but he will recover. With a strong mind, grit and determination will get him through this disaster, and he will one day be whole again. He is the type of guy that will take what he has been given and will choose to rise up to be the best version of himself that he can possibly be.
His recovery will be 24 months long, according to his medical team. Joe doesn't know about this GoFundMe campaign, because he would never agree to asking others for help, much less financial donations.
But this time our boy Joe needs a hand. He has a long road ahead and come hell or high water, the bills keep coming. Any dollar value would be appreciated. If you cannot manage a couple bucks, please send Joe your positive vibes.
Thanks so much. Any and all support is so greatly appreciated.
