Joanne, our kids, and I have always tried to get by on our own, but life changed in an instant when Joanne was in a violent car accident while delivering an order for DoorDash. The crash totaled our only vehicle and left Joanne with severe injuries—both of her lower legs and ankles are broken. Doctors say she’ll be in the hospital and then in rehab for up to two months, facing a long road to recovery.
Since the accident, I haven’t been able to work because I need to be there for our children—getting them to and from the bus stop and making sure they’re okay. Before this, we were already living paycheck to paycheck, and now our rent, bills, and other financial obligations are piling up. Not having a vehicle has made it even harder, especially when it comes to visiting Joanne in the hospital and keeping our family connected.
We don’t have anyone but each other and our kids, and asking for help is something I never thought I’d have to do. But right now, I’m at a loss for what else to do. Any donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward keeping a roof over our heads, paying our bills, and, if possible, helping us get a used vehicle so we can stay together through this. Thank you so much for reading and for any support you can give—every little bit truly means the world to us.
