Support for Joanne Stolen

Donation protected
Joanne Stolen suffered a major stroke on October 28th.  The incident has significantly impacted her mobility, speech and presumably her cognitive function.  Despite the damage from the stroke, she has been showing signs of progress daily. It is far too early to know what her prognosis is or how long she will be in recovery. The only thing that is certain – her recovery will be long and challenging.  Joanne will face many hurdles in the coming months - physical, emotionally and financially.  Joanne is currently at St Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood (near Denver).

Several members of Joanne’s community have requested a place where they can make a financial contribution given her medical condition, the long road to recovery, and the many financial expenses that are sure to emerge. All contributions made through this GoFundMe site will be in support of Joanne, her care, and her immediate family (her partner Rob and her son Kit) as they support her in her recovery.

Joanne is the President and Head Coach of the Frisco Rowing Center and a prominent member of the Colorado rowing community. She has organized the Head of the Wolf Regatta on the Williams Fork Reservoir, and for many years, the Dillon Challenge regatta on Dillon Reservoir - known as the highest elevation, most scenic regatta in North America (maybe the world!). She was also a founding member of Navesink River Rowing in New Jersey which started in 1983.

Joanne has a PhD in microbiology and taught at Rutgers University for many years. She is very artistic and has taught art classes at the Breckenridge Marriott and Breck Create. Joanne is passionate about supporting her community and has volunteered at:  The Backstage Theatre, Breck Film Festival and the NRO (as a community host) to name a few. Joanne is a PSIA certified Nordic ski instructor, a former member of the National Ski Patrol and an ambassador at Breckenridge Ski Resort. As her partner Rob says, “Joanne gets more done before 7am than most people do in a day.”

Joanne has demonstrated an extraordinary level of energy and determination in all that she has accomplished, and we know those traits will come through for her as she faces this challenge.
