Jo Dixon is a loved mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and teacher in the community of Derby, KS. She has been in the Neurocritical ICU at St. Francis since September 6th and had surgery on September 10th to remove a large tumor in her brain.
On Saturday, September 5th, she had a scary incident at home that the doctors believe to have been a seizure. She went to the ER for a wrist injury, but a lesion was found in her brain. Upon further testing, a large tumor was found. She was admitted immediately to the hospital and had surgery to remove the mass. Luckily the surgery went well. Jo and family are now waiting for Oncology follow up for final results and to find out what the prognosis is and what future treatments may or may not be needed. We all are hoping for the best possible outcome.
Prior to this incident, Jo had been preparing for virtual teaching due to COVID and all of the changes and challenges that come along with that. She loves her job and even though she is facing this personal challenge, her mind is at school and with her students and fellow teachers.
This is something that no one was prepared for to happen. I (Bethany - her daughter) am hoping that by creating this fundraiser, some of her stress can be relieved and she can focus on healing. We need her to get better so she can get back to being the loving mother, grandmother, sister, friend and teacher we all know her to be.
Thank you to everyone who has sent prayers, thoughts, checked in and offered support. We feel the love from everyone and couldn't get through this without it.
