Hi friends, I’m currently hospitalized after developing optic neuritis, a serious inflammatory condition affecting my optic nerve that has caused significant vision loss in my left eye. Because vision is involved, my doctors are treating this aggressively and monitoring me closely, which has meant an unexpected hospital stay and a lot of uncertainty around timing and recovery. I’ve applied for Medicaid, but coverage is still up in the air. In the meantime, the day-to-day costs around all of this have been adding up quickly.

Monday 12/29/25  I will be reassessed in order to move forward with one of two more invasive treatments: a plasma exchange (PLEX) over 10 days, or an IVIG over 3-4 days. Much uncertainty looms and any support we can get, spiritually, monetarily or otherwise is welcomed with open arms. 

My partner has been making a 90-minute round trip each day — traveling back home to support our 18-year-old son, who is caring for our animals, and then returning in the evenings to stay with me at the hospital. He will be returning to work tomorrow leaving my in the hospital alone. Because my body hasn’t been tolerating hospital food well, we’ve also been covering outside meals, and we’ll need groceries and basic support once I’m home and recovering.

I hesitated to share this during the holidays, but several people asked how they could help, and this felt like the most honest and gentle way to answer.
