Update: November 14, 2025
Thank you to everyone for the overwhelming response and the kindness you’ve shown to Jim and his family. Jim underwent a second surgery today and is in good spirits. Unfortunately, we still don’t have much more information regarding his prognosis at this time.
Your continued support and prayers mean so much to us. I will keep sharing updates on both the GoFundMe page and my personal page as we learn more.
Hi, my name is Katie, and I’m organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Jim Ellickson and his children, Laurel and Caden. On the morning of November 9th, our dear friend Jim Ellickson — known to many as Jimmy — was involved in a serious riding accident. While working with a young horse, he suffered a fall that caused him to land headfirst, leaving him unresponsive.
Thankfully, a good Samaritan who was highly trained in emergency response situations was nearby and immediately provided CPR until emergency crews arrived. Jim was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital (VGH), where doctors discovered he has sustained significant spinal cord injuries.
Jim underwent surgery on the morning of November 10th, and in the coming days, doctors will learn more about the extent of his injuries and whether he will be able to walk again.
This devastating accident comes with an especially heavy weight for his children, Laurel and Caden. They know all too well the dangers of horseback riding. Their mother, a truly gifted and passionate horsewoman, was tragically taken from them in a horse-related incident.
Jim is a devoted father, horseman, and friend to so many. He’s the first to lend a hand to others, and now it’s our turn to help him and his family.
We are raising funds to:
• Jim’s recovery journey, including extensive rehabilitation, and adaptive needs
• Supporting Laurel and Caden as they face this life-changing transition together
Any amount, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference. If you aren’t able to donate, please consider sharing this page and keeping Jim and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
If anyone would like to help by dropping off care packages for Jim, Laurel, and Caden, please reach out to Katie via email at [email redacted] to arrange a time.
From the bottom of our hearts — thank you for your kindness, compassion, and support for the Ellickson family.
