Update 1/29/24
We want to give you all a quick update as Jim is making great gains in the new year. Jim’s hard work at Spaulding has paid off! He has shown great progress with the physical, occupational and speech therapy. He is much steadier on his feet and is most excited to be off the feeding tube and eating 3 meals per day! All of this means he is graduating to the next level. He now at Westford House in Westford, MA where he will continue with his therapies in a sub acute setting.
We are so appreciative of your visits, positive thoughts, gifts and prayers. Wishing you all the best, we have much to look forward to in 2024!
*UPDATE*
I am happy to report that Jim is no longer intubated! He is awake, alert and hopefully will be moved from the ICU to the Intermediate Care Unit in a few days.
Rachel, the kids and Jim’s family are overwhelmed by all the love, and support you gave to Jim over the past few weeks. They are incredibly grateful and truly believes your continual prayers made the difference. Keep them coming! Thank you!
On Tuesday, October 24th, Rachel arrived home and found Jim unresponsive. 911 was called and Jim was rushed to Lowell General Hospital, where he received a CT scan. The scan indicated Jim had suffered from a frontal lobe hemorrhage resulting in severe brain swelling. Jim was med-flighted to Boston, where he is currently in the Neurosciences Critical Care Unit at Tufts Medical Center.
Jim is currently intubated due to developing pneumonia from aspirating. We know he can hear us, but he cannot speak. He is able to communicate with a hand squeeze and responds when asked to move his foot or give a thumbs up. In fact, when playing his favorite band, Dave Matthews, Jim moved his mouth like he was singing and gave Rachel a thumbs up when she asked if he liked the music!
The uncertainty of Jim’s recovery is overwhelming for Maddie, Jack, Sean, Evie & Rachel. They all have a long road ahead of them. This fund has been started to help ease the financial impact of everyday living expenses on top of new expenses & unexpected ones.
Any support is appreciated. Most importantly, please keep Jim in your prayers.
