Support for Jhonavie
Hello everyone,
As some of you know, my dear friend Jhonavie was diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma In-Situ (breast cancer) in April 2021. She has already undergone a breast biopsy and lumpectomy. Her doctors were unable to get clear margins with her initial lumpectomy requiring her to choose between two additional treatment plans. The first being a second lumpectomy to get clear cancer free margins as well as radiation and hormone therapy. This choice would also require yearly mammograms to monitor for new cancer growth. Her second treatment option is a double mastectomy with reconstruction. Due to Jhonavie’s family history with breast cancer, she has chosen to pursue a double mastectomy with reconstruction. Although this was a difficult choice for her, it will allow her to focus on her future without the constant anxiety of her cancer returning.
Jhonavie’s surgery is scheduled for August 25th, 2021 and she is required to take a 6-week medical leave from work to recover. This leave will, unfortunately, be unpaid and will not be covered by insurance. Jhonavie will also be faced with additional medical bills as she moves forward with her second round of treatment for her breast cancer. If you are able, Scott and Jhonavie would greatly appreciate a financial donation as they focus on Jhonavie’s physical, mental, and emotional recovery.
Jhonavie and Scott are extremely grateful for the love and support they have already received from friends and family (near and far), co-workers, Jhonavie’s medical team, and community support groups. Jhonavie and Scott are working to stay focused on all of the exciting things their future holds including family planning, time with loved ones, and lots of adventures together for many years to come.
Thank you so much for your support and as Jhonavie would say “Mahalo!”,
Nicole Cavender
