Jerome Perkins, a loving father, dedicated conductor, and union member of SMART Local 1328, recently experienced the unimaginable loss of his newborn son, Journey Perkins born on March 3rd, 2026. Jerome chose the name Journey for his son because he knew from the very beginning that his child would face a challenging path. Journey was born 25 weeks premature, and despite the complications, he showed incredible strength and resilience, developing and fighting for his life over the first two months. Jerome and his family held onto hope, cherishing every precious moment with their son.

Sadly, the last two months of Journey's life were marked by a battle with infections that his underdeveloped lungs could not overcome. Pneumonia ultimately cut Journey's life heartbreakingly short. on Thursday July 23rd, 2026. The loss has left Jerome and his family devastated, facing not only emotional pain but also unexpected financial burdens. As new parents, they were unprepared for the medical bills and funeral expenses that have arisen so suddenly.
