Hi, my name is Andrea and I’m asking for help for my dad, Jerry McPherson—most people know him as “Jer Mac.” My dad is 75 years old and has always been the kind of person who shows up for others. For over 50 years, he was an avid softball player, and some of my best memories are of him coaching me and my sister—always encouraging, always present, always our biggest supporter. Now he’s facing the hardest fight of his life.
In August of 2025, my dad was diagnosed with stage 3C colon cancer, very close to stage 4. Since then, he has been in and out of the hospital, enduring multiple surgeries and complications. At one point, he was in a coma for about a week. He spent the holidays in the hospital. He’s gone through procedures most people can’t even imagine—including having a stoma and ostomy bag, which was later reversed after his body wasn’t able to tolerate proper nutrition, even through TPN. Now, the chemotherapy is taking a heavy toll. His appetite is nearly gone, and he is rapidly losing weight. His white blood cell counts are low, making everything more difficult and more dangerous. Through all of this, he’s still fighting. But the financial burden has become overwhelming.
Each cancer treatment comes with high copays, and they add up quickly. Between ongoing treatments, hospital stays, and basic living expenses, it’s more than our family can manage alone. My dad said something recently that stuck with me: “Cancer kills you physically and financially.” And he’s right. We are asking for help to ease that financial stress so he can focus on what matters most—fighting this disease and maintaining some quality of life. Funds raised will go toward cancer treatment copays, medical expenses, hospital bills, nutritional support, transportation to and from treatments, and basic living expenses during this time.
