Update: we have managed to finance another small reliable vehicle and are still dealing with the payoff and gap of the totaled one. We have been notified the owner of the property we are in wants to sell and we have been looking for new housing. Unfortunately, there isn’t as good a deal as we have now and we have to come up with deposit and utilities as well as furnishings. We had some reserve from efforts so far that would have helped, but my truck broke down and it was an emergency to get it fixed so I can work. Please share.

Hello, my name is Jason, and asking for help is not something our family is used to. We’ve always tried to handle life’s challenges on our own, but the past several years have humbled us in more ways than we ever expected.

For the last seven years, our 10-year-old daughter has required treatments every other week for HoFH. For four of those years, we’ve lived 3.5–5 hours away from the treatment center, and each trip takes an entire day away from work. The travel costs, fuel, and the constant time off have taken a real financial toll—one we’ve been trying hard to keep up with.

On top of that, I’ve recently faced medical issues of my own, undergoing procedures to remove multiple large polyps and masses from my intestines. This has meant even more time away from work and more strain on our family, emotionally and financially.

Most recently, things took another tough turn when my wife hit dangerous road conditions and crashed our family car into a power pole, totaling it. While insurance and GAP will help, we’re already stretched thin, and we simply don’t have the deductible or the means to replace the fuel-efficient family vehicle we rely on for biweekly trips from western Maine to Boston Children’s Hospital.

We work hard to provide for our girls and to be present for them, but life has backed us into a corner. We currently live in a very small two-bedroom apartment, and our daughters dream of having a space of their own—a place to grow, to create, to just be kids. More than anything, we want to give them a stable home and a fresh start.

Right now, though, we need help to hit the reset button. Between medical travel, lost work time, mounting expenses, and losing our main vehicle, we’re struggling to climb out of the hole life has dug for us. In addition, we just found out our landlord is selling his property in a couple months so we need to get something lined up that is still affordable by then.

Any support—whether through donations or simply sharing our story—means the world to us. Thank you for taking the time to read, and for helping us move toward a better, more stable future for our family.
