An update from Jacob Lougheed:
It is with both great relief and great praise that we (her family and l) can tell you that my beautiful bride, Janel Lougheed, is now fully healed in heaven.
Through this process, Janel has shown her tremendous faith and devotion to her Lord Jesus Christ. I am blown away by watching, first hand, what she has had to endure during this battle, and yet her smile has shone through even the darkest of days and times. Janel and I have discussed, on many occasions, how absolutely amazed we are by God and his grace during her brave fight with cancer. Even before this fight, he had blessed us so much each and every day together. Many nights spent in a hospital or ER and we had all but given up hope... and then God came to breathe it right back into us. We (my girls and l) will forever praise the Lord that Janel is currently seeing face-to-face. I Love You my Beautiful Girl... and I will see you soon Bud.

In June of 2022, my sister, Janel was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer which spread to her lymph nodes, lungs and liver. Since then she has had radiation, chemotherapy and two surgeries to remove portions of one lung and her liver. In November of 2023, just 2 months after liver surgery, the cancer had returned. They quickly did 4 rounds of chemo, and a CT scan revealed the cancer had gotten worse. Her oncologist changed her treatments to protein blocker pills and infusions, but the new treatments took almost 2 months to be approved by the insurance. She began those treatments a couple of weeks ago.

On April 6th she went to the ER experiencing intense back pain. Many scans and tests showed cancer growth in multiple spots, the worst being in her spine. The Dr. told them she has leptomeningeal metastases. They say it is incurable and has a short prognosis. We are so thankful to have learned since, there is NO cancer in her brain or her spinal fluid as initially expected. Praise God!

Jake and Janel know God is so much bigger than any of this and are trusting in His plan. They are not done fighting and are researching treatments and other supportive therapies for healing. They plan to see an integrative oncologist in Grand Rapids in a couple of weeks and are working to set up treatments at a clinic near Chicago that specializes in stage 4 cancer treatments. They will have travel costs, as well as, treatments and supplements not covered by insurance.

So many of you have asked how you can help. If you are able and feel God’s leading, your financial support would help to release one burden among many right now. Jake and Janel want to express a huge thank you for the overwhelming amount of prayers and encouragement on their behalf. They mean so much to them and to our entire family! Janel was immensely blessed by the card shower after her last surgery. Please consider sending her another card of encouragement and show her how loved she is!

We continue to praise God throughout this process, as He stays close to each of us and carries us through. Thank you for continuing to pray fervently for Jake, Janel, Maggie, and Bailey!

Thank you so much!
