Update 6/15:
We have begun the process of creating James’s Celebration of Life. Venue, food and music have been acquired. Thank you all for your support in these trying times.

Update 6/3:
James has passed away shortly after midnight today. The end came peacefully surrounded by his wife of 37 years and his behoved pets. The end came sooner than anticipated. Now begins the process of the “after”. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers. Share the page if you can. Your support is appreciated.

5/27 Update:
James has almost completely taken to his hospice bed. He now needs assistance eating, bathing and toileting. He is speaking very little. Hospice nurse comes in once a week and home health aide twice a week. The goal is to keep him comfortable as his illness progresses.

I am here taking care of him in between hospice visits as Mary is unable to due to her own health. James did not have life insurance or any retirement planning. Mary is now trying to cover the mortgage, household bills and things James needs to keep him fed and comfortable. She has exhausted any savings she had. She is waiting for the slow to move Social Security machine to get into motion.

Any support you can offer, whether monetary, socially or spiritual will be greatly appreciated.

Update:
James has been diagnosed with small cell carcinoma of the lungs. It is in final stages and has metastasized to his brain. He has been given 3 to 6 months of life left. He is leaving behind his wife Mary of 37 years and 2 adult daughters.

Below is my original post. Any help you can provide while they work through this tragic event is greatly appreciated.

James Holzman is a longtime friend, really more like family. On Wednesday, James experienced an unknown traumatic event and was rushed to the hospital. He is now being closely monitored and undergoing a battery of tests to determine the best course of action. The doctors have discovered lesions on his brain, and the coming days will be critical as they work to understand his condition and provide the care he needs.

James is the sole earner in his household. His wife of 37 years, Mary, is currently wheelchair bound and recovering from an accident. With James in the hospital, their family is facing not only emotional stress but also significant financial challenges. While they do have some medical insurance, it will not cover the expensive scans, tests, and ongoing care that James requires. The household is also struggling to keep up with daily expenses while James is unable to work.

We are reaching out to ask for your support during this incredibly difficult time. Donations will go directly toward medical bills, household expenses, and, if necessary, any home care for James or Mary. Your generosity will help ease their burden and allow them to focus on James’s recovery. Please consider helping James and Mary—any support you can give is deeply appreciated.
