Jacob Spears is an 18-year-old graduate of Evans High School and the only student from his class to attend an Ivy League school. As the oldest sibling and the first in his family to go to Brown University, Jacob has always been a bright young man with a promising future. He is majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Economics, and his passion for piano and love of trying new foods have made him a well-rounded and joyful person. Jacob’s achievements and character have inspired many, and his journey to Brown was a source of pride for his family and friends.

On December 13, Jacob’s life changed dramatically when he was shot while taking his Economics final exam during the Brown University mass shooting. He sustained a gunshot wound to his stomach, but through sheer adrenaline and courage, he managed to run outside, where he was aided by others. Jacob is currently in the hospital in stable condition, recovering from his wounds. The shock and pain of this tragedy have deeply affected his family, who have traveled from Georgia to Rhode Island to be by his side. The expenses of travel, lodging, and supporting Jacob’s recovery are significant, and his family did not ask for assistance. Instead, Jacob’s high school best friends have come together to help ease the financial burden and support Jacob’s healing journey.
