Support for Iris Gomez- A loving mother, sister and daughter
Donation protected
Dear loved ones and community, I am reaching out to ask for your help for my sister, Iris Gomez. Her health has declined rapidly, and her life has been turned upside down in a very short amount of time.
In December 2023, Iris complained about a pain in her left arm that progressively worsened over time. Her daughters noticed her confusion and disassociation, and after the car accident, they took her to the ER where she was sent home with no diagnosis.
Her condition deteriorated quickly, and we (sisters) found her bedridden, unable to eat or move her left arm and leg. We suspected she had a stroke, and took her back to the ER. This time demanding they screen her for a stroke. Our worst fears were confirmed when the MRI showed brain damage and early stages of dementia and nerve damage to her left side of her body, all due to the stroke left untreated.
After weeks of hospitalization, we discovered Iris lost her job, had no insurance, and no income. The family started the process of getting her on disability and Medicaid, but we were told it could take no less than 6 months.
After being out of the hospital, a couple of weeks. My sister was readmitted to the hospital due to a high fever and a severe stomach infection called Clostridium difficile and now needs dialysis due to the damage the infection did to her kidneys. She has been in the hospital over a month now.
The family has exhausted all resources including reaching out to local programs that can probably help. But we have not had any success in finding any program that she could qualify for immediately.
Her health has not improved much, and we were told to take her home with hospice. We refuse to lose hope for our sister. Especially since one doctor told us she can recover if she gets physical therapy and her dialysis as needed. She needs extensive care since she is non-mobile and cannot take care of herself or even feed herself anymore. So, we are asking for any help to cover her medical expenses and assist with her home care nurse including getting a medical bed. Iris is a mother of six, with two young children still at home, and deserves a chance to recover. She is a loving and beautiful person. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support.
