Many of you know that I have type one diabetes and a lot of health issues. Many of you also know that I just got out of the hospital after several days in the ICU where I was in DKA (dangerously high blood sugars), had THREE separate infections, and a very bad reaction to a nausea medication they gave me.
After what was a very difficult hospital stay, I have decided that there are a few things I need to follow through with for my well being… but I’m going to need some support once again through yet another big medical speed bump.
There are two things I am looking to raise money and find resources for.
(1) After more than 20 hospital stays since 2020, I have officially decided that I want to pursue the surgery that would relieve just about all of the issues I have with my stomach. In short, I would be getting a pacemaker put into my stomach so that it pumps correctly.
However, my insurance does not cover this particular surgery (though my doctor says there could be a chance!), and the likely recovery time would be two months without work… So here I am again, putting down my pride so that I can get the medical support I need.
I would need to save up a couple months worth of bills before I would be able to take the time off to get the surgery, which would be around $4k for me to feel comfortable taking two months off... Additionally, if we can’t get insurance to cover it, it could potentially cost as much as $100k, which I obviously don’t expect to be able to pay… so I’m also looking for any resources that can help cover medical procedures that insurance won’t!
(2) The other thing I am raising money for is to buy a new insulin pump. Shortly after getting my new insulin pump that I absolutely fell in love with (and was seeing significant improvements in my blood sugar with) it was taken by someone at the park… Again, my insurance will not cover a new one, and if I want to buy a new one on my own they are just under $4500, which is a lot of money for little ol’ me. But I’m also very proud of the strides I was making on the new pump (my lowest A1C ever!) and I’m determined to have one again.
When you just want is to live a normal healthy life, even the smallest donations truly mean the world and are a huge help. And even if you aren’t able to donate, resources and shares are just as helpful! Thank you to everyone in advance.
**UPDATE 9/28**
I was able to get around needing a new referral and have a doctor appointment to talk about the surgery on 11/10. I am also only a few hundred dollars and one phone call away from a new insulin pump!!
