In a tragic event, a coworker of mine was disposing of some brush when suddenly an explosion happened. Unfortunately, his two boys, 5 years old and 6 years old, were injured by the explosion, one with second-degree burns to his shoulder area and the other boy has 30% to 40% of his body burnt. The hospital has life-flighted the youngest boy to two different hospitals. He is currently stable, but the skin grafts have not held, and he now has an infection. They have removed the vent tube and put in a trach and a PICC line. He may have to have the trach for up to 2 years, depending on how he heals. The doctors are saying he may be in the hospital for up to 6 months, while the other boy has already been released. These boys are very bright, fun, and energetic. They love to help their parents with any projects they have going on. On this day in particular, they were just playing in the yard like boys do.
We are mostly looking for thoughts and prayers, but the medical expenses are going to be very detrimental to the livelihood of this young family. After he is released from the hospital, he will have many months of rehab, other skin grafts, and surgeries to keep the tissues growing. So please, if anybody can help this family, it would be a phenomenal blessing for them.
