I am writing this from the hospital, where my 16-year-old son, Ijah, is currently admitted. In a sudden and terrifying turn of events, we just found out that he needs to undergo surgery to get a pacemaker. As a single mother, Ijah is my absolute world. Watching him go through this heart condition is the hardest thing I have ever faced. While my only focus should be on his recovery and being by his side, the reality of the financial burden is hitting hard.
