Our family is reaching out for support as we navigate a difficult time with my father, Homer Ferguson. On March of this year, Homer developed a serious foot infection that required surgery. His recovery has been complicated by an antibiotic-resistant infection, making it very difficult for his wounds to heal. As a result, he has needed ongoing skilled nursing care, and he hasn’t been able to come home for over six months.
This experience has been incredibly hard on our family. My mother, Marina Ferguson, and my sister, Elizabeth, have been doing everything they can to support Homer, all while trying to sell their house so they can move somewhere more accessible for him. Both of my parents are in their 80s, and my sister is in her 50s. Neither has the physical strength to provide the level of care Homer needs at home, especially for daily tasks like getting to the bathroom. The financial strain of extended skilled nursing care has added to the stress, and we’re facing difficult decisions about what comes next, as there are few good options available.
We all love my dad. He’s friendly, good-hearted, and always ready with a smile or a joke. He loves football, Star Trek, and The Big Bang Theory, and we all miss having him at home. We’re asking for help to cover the costs of his care and to give our family some breathing room as we figure out the best path forward. Any support means the world to us and brings us one step closer to bringing Homer home.
